PRIVATE SOUS CHEF JOB DESCRIPTION – BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY


Summer Contract

We are seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join a private estate kitchen team in Bridgehampton for the summer season. This role works in direct collaboration with the Estate Chef to deliver seamless, top-tier culinary service for a busy, high-profile household during the peak summer months.

The ideal candidate will be a technically skilled culinary professional who thrives in a collaborative team environment, possesses an exceptional work ethic, and brings a positive, flexible attitude to a fast-paced estate kitchen.


LOCATION: Bridgehampton, NY


COMPENSATION: * Rate: $700/day

  • Housing: Not Provided
  • Terms: Seasonal contract - no additional benefits


SCHEDULE & FLOW

  • Duration: Seasonal, July 13 – September 15 (approximate)
  • Days: 5 days per week (Saturday - Wednesday) 
  • Meal Times: Estimated and fluid; flexibility is highly appreciated.
  • Breakfast: 7:30 AM 
  • Lunch: 12:30 PM
  • Dinner: 6:00 PM 
  • Note: Meal times shift depending on the household’s daily needs. Candidates must be comfortable with a fluid, flexible daily rhythm rather than a fixed clock.


HOUSEHOLD PROFILE

  • Guest Count: 4 to 10+ guests regularly.
  • Collaborative Environment: Works directly alongside and under the direction of the Estate Chef. A humble, team-first attitude is essential to support the overall kitchen operations.


MEAL & SERVICE EXPECTATIONS

  • Service Style: Varies daily; must be adept at both elegant plating and sophisticated family-style presentations.
  • Culinary Standards: Exceptional attention to ingredient quality, precise execution, and flawless presentation.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Culinary Support: Collaborating seamlessly with the Estate Chef across all daily meal services.
  • Station Management: Handling full setup, breakdown, and organization for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Kitchen Care: Maintaining immaculate, restaurant-grade kitchen sanitation and standards between each service.
  • Staff Meals: Designing and executing high-quality, buffet-style meals for the household staff.
  • Pastry & Dessert: Handling the preparation and plating of dessert for dinner service.
  • Adaptability: Embracing a fluid, guest-driven summer schedule with grace and professionalism.



IDEAL CHEF PROFILE

  • Background: 3–5+ years of experience in high-volume, fine-dining restaurants (Michelin-starred or high-caliber regional equivalents) or premium seasonal private estate service. Strong foundational technique, solid knife skills, and a baseline knowledge of pastry/desserts are required.
  • Personality & Discretion: Highly organized, calm under pressure, and deeply respectful of household privacy. The ideal candidate takes direction exceptionally well, is intrinsically motivated, and can pivot quickly to accommodate sudden schedule changes or guest-count fluctuations without friction.
